I've never been to Ukraine before the war started on the 24th of February 2022. But it all changed in 2022. Children were fleeing homes, leaving everything behind. Very similar feelings as in 2015, when Syrian kids and families arrived to our train stations in thousands. I walked down to the Keleti Train Station of Budapest, and met Jázmin, Eszter, Fóra who set up the "street nursery" at the Keleti Train Station. An entirely civil help base for kids and mums.

Alex Davern family_edited.jpg

I remember the day, when I got his e-mail. He and his family would like to help in Ukraine, and would I be interested? After our first call, we started planning. And we did magic in Ukraine. Children's play corners in several refugee hostels, an entire nursery was furnished for kids displaced from the war zone, a mentally disabled kid's home got a magic makeover and his friends, family and business partners joined to bring light and heat - a power generator - to an entire school during the winter of 2022-2023.  The stories not finished yet. He and his family and friends continue to help . And I'm truly grateful.

THANK YOU ALEX DAVERN !

Humanitarian Aid for Ukrainian people in Hungary, Budapest

IMG_9248_edited.png

After the Keleti Train Station aid point closed in April 2022 - the government moved all refugee aid services to the BOK sports hall, - the Keleti Children's Corner team called for info on places needing help in Ukraine. I'm thankful to Zsuzsanna Zsohár, who let me join her with an aid delivery to Ukraine. On this journey I have met some truly inspiring people. You can read our stories, and aid missions that followed my first discovery trip. With the help of many volunteers, and supporters we made some wonderful changes in kid's life.

Budapest Keleti Train station "Children's Corner"

People of Budapest couldn't just stand and watch fleeing children and mothers arriving on the trains from Ukraine. A civil aid point for kids was born, out of love. Furnished with kid's benches, carpets, coloring books and even little beds for the tired travelers. Mum's could pick up essential kids supply and baby food.

Budapest Aid Center Storage

We needed a storage for sorting and preparing packages to Ukraine. A place where volunteers can meet and work together. The Kisfaludy 40 house community agreed that the common basement could be used free of charge for this purpose. It's still in use, for special collections.

AKG School Budapest Students Volunteering Event

After the Keleti civil aid point closed in March 2022, the AKG school offered space to store the collected items. The students helped to prepare all donations, boxed it up, listed all items. And we also held a discussion session with the youngsters on what's happening in Ukraine, and how best they could help.
